BB Cream Exposed!

It is a beautiful and damned thing that my friend Tenne and I happen to work extremely close to Greenbelt 5. After burning huge holes in our wallets from the exorbitant food spending, we've started to grab wraps at Starbucks so that we can kill the rest of the lunch hour by power browsing. There's no area that we haven't covered, and recently we've come across quite a number of BB Creams in local drugstores and specialty outlets. You may have seen them featured in magazines, online blogs and online stores - but what do you really know about this supposed miracle cream?

I'd like to think I know a lot about product, I'm one of those really crazed consumers that is easily amazed by fiber mascaras, keratin shampoo and vitamin e oil - but I had no idea up till this morning what BB (Blemish Balm) Cream actually was. Firstly, it apparently has active ingredients and minerals that clear your skin of dark spots, freckles and wrinkles. The stores call it a multi-functional cream that soothes, protects, moisturizes and covers blemishes. It may sound too good to be true, considering the price range is relatively cheap and it seems to have sprouted up everywhere from Watsons to Skinfood. But does it actually work?

Results from a ton of tests in Korea show that it indeed fades your freckles after a month of use, and this test was orchestrated on older women (mid 30's up). So according to the manufacturers of brands like Skin79, younger skin gets more benefits from using the lightly tinted cream (it maintains the good quality of your skin and improves the slight imperfections). So what now? Is this supposed to be a treatment or actual makeup? Here's the Q&A skinny on how to use the cream, and where to get it locally or online - after the jump!

Can I wear the BB Cream alone or with primer/moisturizer?
The BB Cream was formulated as MAKEUP with added little extras, so you should probably treat it like a super vitamin foundation and use it over your normal day moisturizer. Most BB Creams do not come with SPF even though it may contain zinc, which naturally gives you some sun protection - so rely on your normal spf coverage.

Can I wear it overnight?
You shouldn't, like all make-up you should wash it off at night, completely.

Which is the best BB Cream out there?
The thing is, everyone has different skin tones and skin textures. Most likely what works for you may not work for your co-worker or even your sister. Like everything else it's all about trial and error.

Where you can get these creams locally (see the collage for the product packaging):
Watsons -
Pure Beauty:
Watsons carries its own organic pomegranate infused skincare line called Pure Beauty, which has a very affordable jasmine scented BB Cream.
Elianto:
A korean brand that has its own stand alone store in Mall of Asia can be found in Watsons as well, their BB Cream is said to be good for whitening (if that's what you're after).
Maybelline:
This BB Cream apparently has a ton of vitamins and minerals in it, as well as light foundation-like coverage.

Etude House -
A fairly new, very affordable Korean brand brought in by SM - the only branch I know is at Megamall near Toy Kingdom and GoNuts Donuts. Their BB is not just in cream form, but in a powder as well!

SkinFood -
This totally organic skincare line uses natural ingredients to create their blemish balms, with aloe and gingko versions. SkinFood is available at Essences in Rustans, as well as their stand alone store in Glorietta.

The Face Shop -
A well established Korean brand that has had many successfully launched products, the Face Shop has many  versions of the BB Cream, with SPF 20 in every version! The Face Shop is located in Rockwell,  Bonifacio High Street, and Glorietta.
